Consolidation of suppliers and protection of infrastructure and Cloud services-make the cyber security sector, according to a report from the company Cisco.

more voices, the more difficult the conversation. This maximum that is practically applicable in any context also begins to become a reality in the market of cyber security, according to Cisco and the main findings of its annual study Cisco CISO Benchmark Study 2019, presented today by the company.

A report that aims, as main conclusions for the cyber security sector in the consolidation of actors, the increasing importance of the security Cloud, or the minor losses due to incidents of cyber security in the face of the currency.

the B-side, the complexity, the lack of action, the need for awareness-raising on all employees or the shortage of profiles of experts in cybersecurity, marking a year over this market.

As explained by Eutimio Fernández, director of cyber security at Cisco Spain, it is clear that “organizations are improving when it comes to building defenses, to detect threats and avoid gaps but we have yet to get… The threats are also increasingly complex and 65% of the CISOs continue to claim that you have great difficulties to determine the scope of an attack, contain it and remedy it”.

Consolidation of providers

a Lot of work to be done in a report that points out how one of the main difficulties of the security officers in their day-to-day, remains the  manage security alerts from multiple providers, specifically points out 79% of the CISOs, compared to 74% of the study 2018.

For this reason, the consolidation is one of the main trends and as well organizations are consolidating their environment. In the study of 2018, 54% had solutions of 10 or fewer providers in their environment; in 2019, this figure has risen to 63%. The study from Cisco shows that the CISOs with fewer point solutions can better manage alerts by using an approximation of the integrated architecture.

This consolidation of suppliers may even reduce the number of ‘vendors’ in our country to just four or five names, according to Eutimio Fernández.

The cloud security is another of the major trends in the market. According to the report of the company for the CISOs rely more on the use of Cloud as a defense and to protect its own Cloud infrastructure. Specifically, the 93% is based on the cloud to improve the efficiency of the security. Equally, the perception of the difficulty of protecting the Cloud infrastructure has declined: 55% in 2018 to 52% in 2019.

Another of the conclusions of the report is the increasingly lower cost of security breaches. For more than half of respondents (51%) of the cost is less than $ 500,000, compared to 47% in 2018. A figure descends but that “remains too high”, in the opinion of the director of Cybersecurity at Cisco Spain.

And what’s most disturbing is how these attacks are affecting companies with very negative effects especially on the brand reputation and on the retention of customers. According to Cisco, the largest gap suffered in the past year has affected the  operations of the company at 36%; the retention of customers by 33% (a figure which rises 7 points to 2018) and to the corporate reputation (32% compared to 27% in 2018).

“Each time, the user is more concerned about the security of your data, for what data companies have about it and how and what it is used or managed. This explains why a gap of security is becoming more and more harmful to the brand image and can lead to loss of customers,” said Eutimio Fernández.
