The initiative of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy has just been presented and represents an unprecedented mobilization of public funds, in addition to promoting the attraction of foreign investment.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, today presented the ENIA, an ambitious plan accompanied by a budget of 600 million euros until 2023 that seeks to attract foreign investment, promote digital transformation and bring intelligence artificial (AI) to VET teaching . He was accompanied by the Ministers of Economic Affairs Nadia Calviño, of Education Reyes Maroto and of Industry and Commerce Reyes Maroto. This strategy is structured around six sections:

  • Promotion of research and development in AI
  • Promotion of digital capacities to forge national talent and attract international talent.
  • Development of data platforms and infrastructures that support AI
  • Integration of AI into value chains that allow economic transformation
  • Boosting AI in Public Administration
  • Governance of AI through an ethical and regulatory framework

The public investment announced is 600 million euros for the years 2021 and 2023 but it is expected to attract 3.3 billion from private investments . Sánchez affirms his intention that this plan place Spain among the leading countries in research and use of AI, thereby promoting the contribution to economic and social development and the modernization of the economy.

New figures and organisms

Some of the measures promoted by ENIA include the creation of the Data Office, the government Chief Data Officer, the GObTechLab and the SpAIn Talent Hub, a program coordinated with the ICEX to attract foreign investment < / strong>.

One of the aspects that relate the ENIA to education is its inclusion in the training plans of VET studies, the Government announcing its commitment to improving and promoting the network of technological development centers.

Standards and ethics

Along with the approval of future regulations that complete the development derived from the ENIA, the Government has also announced its commitment to ethical behavior in such a sensitive matter, including the ethical treatment of public data derived from this initiative. This includes the creation of a quality seal for AI, a certificate that will allow knowing when an artificial intelligence is reliable, transparent and in accordance with the quality standard determined by the Government.
