The German Internet portal AV-Test published the latest results of a study conducted to find out how the work of various antiviruses affects the performance of personal computers. AV-Test employees tested on a reasonably powerful PC with an Intel Core i7-3770 processor running at 3.4 GHz, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB Samsung SSD.

Does the antivirus affect the performance of the computer?

Tests showed that on average, all antiviruses slow down a load of sites by 11-16%, application launch by 9-15%, an installation by 26-35%, and file copying by 7-18%. For example, the Windows Defender antivirus built into Windows 10 can slow applications installation up to 54%, launch them up to 9%, and load websites up to 10%.
